Coral Reefs are a Global Concern
In our lifetime we have lost more coral reefs than any time in recorded history. At this rate we may lose what little we have left and reach a tipping point where our reefs may never recover. Imagine a world without reefs, then imagine the marine life they support disappearing. We could lose the most vital resource our planet possesses.
We may not be able to halt climate change, but at Legacy Reef Foundation we can use science and “assisted evolution” to create heat and acidic resilient corals that can survive and potentially thrive within a damaged ecosystem.
We are building portable containerized coral nurseries that will be sent to island and coastal nations in need. We will work with the local population to rebuild their reefs and restore their primary food source.
Legacy Reef Foundation has initiated the process of constructing a portable, containerized coral lab which will be shipped to the island of Fiji. This lab will assist Fijians to repair the coral reefs which they rely on for food security and long-term survival at their location.
